Well Import Column Definitions

When importing different types of data in columnar format you will need to specify different columns.  The following is a brief overview of columns that you need to define.

General Well Data

This includes a wide variety of general well data. The only mandatory fields for import are the UWI and some form of position information to locate the well, whether it is lat/longs or X/Ys. Any notes about the well can be entered under the Description field. Symbols are determined using the Current Status. If this is not set, a status of Unknown will be assigned.

Tops

When importing tops, files generally have two formats. If the top values and formation names are listed in two columns, and there is a UWI entry for each field, use the following column headings:

  • UWI: Specify the unique well identifier.
  • Formation ID: A formation ID.  This is only used when importing tops with one top per line.
  • Formation Top Depth: The depth of the top.  This is only used when importing tops with one top per line.  When defined, you also need to define the Formation ID column.

The other common format for tops is to have a column for the UWI and for each top. Under the column heading for each formation ID you will see a list of formation top depths. Use the following column headings:

  • UWI: Specify the unique well identifier.
  • Formation ID Column Labels: You can type in the formation name into this field and that will become the top name. If only importing tops, using the "First line is column labels" check box will automatically fill this in for all columns.

Production Data

When importing production data, there is a minimum amount of information required to move ahead in the wizard, but in most cases you will want to define additional columns:

  • UWI: The unique well identifier.
  • Production Entity: User-defined name given to the well, field, or country to identify, group, and report production data.
  • Production Volume Date: The date assigned to the data record. Each set of production volumes must have an associated date, stored in an allowable format. The same format should be used for all dates in the file.

Production Entity Data

To import production entity fields, in addition to the required columns, you can define the following:

  • Date -: There are five date fields (End Injection, End Production, Last Reported, Start Injection, Start Production). This should all have the same date format.
  • Province, State, Lease, or District: Select one of these column headings. This will appear in Well Properties as Area Type. The column should contain the associated information which will be used to populate the user-defined Area field.
  • Enhanced Recovery Type: User-defined enhanced recovery type for the entity.
  • Field: User-defined field associated with the production entity.
  • Formation: User-defined formation associated with the production data.
  • Pool: User-defined pool associated with the production entity.
  • Primary Product: Column options are BOE, C02, Gas, NGL, Nitrogen, Oil, Sulphur, or Water. The default value when this column is not defined is None.
  • Production Method: Column options are air lift, flowing, pumping, swabbing, gas lift, bailing, fill up, jetted, plunger lift, vacuum lift, water lift, reversed out, or intermittent. The default value when this column is not defined is None.
  • Remarks: This text field can be used to supply any additional information you want associated with the production entity.
  • Source: The source of the production data. You can also specify your source on the Import Data page.
  • Status: User-defined status of the producing formation.
  • Time On: Time in hours associated with each production value.

Production Volume Data

To import production data, in addition to the required columns, you can define the following:

  • Cumulative or Monthly Injection and Production: Each fluid type (oil, gas, water, BOE, CO2, condensate, nitrogen, and sulphur) has four associated column header (cumulative injection, cumulative production, monthly injection, and monthly production). Only data for labeled columns will be imported.
  • Production Volume Units: Indicate if the units for all production volume data are metric or imperial. You can also select your default units on the Import Data page.

Zone Interval Data

To import zone interval information associated with a production entity, in addition to the required columns, you need to define the following :

  • Zone Interval Name: The name of the producing zone or zone interval.
  • Zone Interval Units: The units used to define the zone interval.
  • Zone Interval Top (MD or TVD): The start depth (shallower) of the zone. This appears in Well Properties as Top.
  • Zone Interval Base (MD or TVD): The end depth (deeper) of the zone. This appears in Well Properties as Bottom.

Velocity Curves

  • Depth: The depth value for each point of the curve.  This value is mandatory.
  • Time: The time value for each point of the curve.  This value is mandatory.
  • Name: The name of the velocity curve.  If this value is not defined it can be specified in a later dialog.
  • UWI: The unique well identifier.  If this value is not defined it can be specified in a later dialog.

Directional Surveys

Directional surveys can be input using a variety of different formats.  A minimum of three values are needed for the survey to be calculated properly. The most common are:

  • Azimuth, Inclination, Measured Depth
  • Azimuth, Inclination, Length
  • EW Offset, NS Offset, TVD
  • X, Y, TVD
  • Latitude, Longitude, TVD

In addition, if the values are included in the file, it is best to specify the UWI as well as Measured Depth.  The UWI can be specified later if it is not included, and the Measured Depth will be calculated if it is not defined.
