Palette Editor: Toolbars

The following describes the toolbars in the Palette Editor window.

Palette Editor Toolbars

Standard Toolbar


The Standard toolbar is to give quick access to the most common editing functions.  Most of these functions can be found under the main menu as well as using hot keys.

New: Create a new color palette.  The palette will be filled with all black values.

Open: Open an existing color palette file.

Save To File: Save the palette to a file.  If the editor has been launched from a properties dialog, this will also save the new palette directly to the source properties dialog.

 Save To Dialog: Save the new palette directly to the properties dialog from where the editor was launched.

Cut: Cut out the current selection and place it into the internal clipboard.

Copy: Copy the current selection to the internal clipboard.

Paste: Paste the colors from the internal clipboard into the palette at the currently selected location.

Help: Bring up this help file.


Advanced Editing Toolbar


Use this toolbar to access some of the more complex editing operations.

Interpolate All: Interpolate all the black colors in the entire palette.  Typically you will use this option to quickly create a rainbow-type palette.  Clear the palette with New from the main File menu, insert colors along the palette and click this item to interpolate the colors.

Interpolate Selection: Interpolate between the first color and the last color in the current selection.

Rotate Palette: Select this item to bring up a dialog that will allow you to rotate the entire palette one color at a time.

Reverse Palette: Click on this button to flip the palette from left to right.

Reverse Selection: Click on this button to flip the current selection from left to right.

Stretch/Squeeze Selection: Click on this item to stretch or squeeze the colors in the current selection.  Colors are stretched/squeezed from the center of the selection.  You have two options for colors outside of the selection.

Remain the same: Selecting this option will ensure that the stretch squeeze does not affect colors outside of the selection

Stretch/squeeze as well: Select this option to have the selection expand into the part of the palette outside of the selection.
Lighten Palette: Select this option to quickly lighten or darken the entire palette.

Properties: Bring up the properties of the current palette.

Palette Size: Change this item to alter the number of separate colors that are used to compose the current palette.


Status Bar


This toolbar displays descriptions of the icons and their functionality.
