SEG-Y Export: Advanced File Header Keywords

Use this page to select less commonly used file header keywords for export to the SEG-Y file.  This page is only visible after selecting the Enter Manually option on the Keywords page.

Advanced File Header Keywords Column Descriptions

Select the keywords you want included in the SEG-Y export file from a list of less commonly used keywords for export.  These keywords are written to the binary header of the SEG-Y file.

Keyword: The name of the keyword.  Place a check the box on the left to select a keyword for export, or remove the check to avoid exporting the keyword.

Byte Offset: The byte offset into the header for the keyword.  This is the destination byte location in the exported file.

Data Type: Specify the format you wish to write the keyword in.

  • IEEE Float: This is the normal 32 bit floating point format used on most modern computers.
  • IBM Float: IBM 32 bit floating point format.  This is the original floating point format for SEG-Y files.  Certain applications expect floating point data to be in IBM format.
  • 32 Bit Integer: Normal 32 bit (4 byte) integer data.
  • 16 Bit Integer: Normal 16 bit (2 byte) integer data.  Various common keywords are stored as 16 bit integers.
  • 8 Bit Integer: Normal 8 bit (1 byte) integer data.  This is not a common format, and is normally only used for specifying application specific flags.

Scale Factor: Specify a scale factor to apply to a keyword before writing it to the output file.  Normally this will be left as 1, but occasionally a user might want to scale certain keywords such as the shot sequence number or the coordinate values.
