Well Seismic Intersections (coming soon)

Well Seismic Intersections is an application that allows you to extract seismic data at a well location, and export the data to a file. You can extract single values, or a series of values within a specified window.

General Information

Wells

Select the wells that you want to use to extract data. Left click to select a single well, or use the Ctrl key on your keyboard to select multiple wells,  Alternately, you can move a single well to the Selected list by double clicking on it, and move a group of wells by selecting them from the Basemap.

Seismic Selection

Select the seismic that you want to use to extract data. Left click to select a single line or use the Ctrl key on your keyboard to select multiple lines. Display Working Set can be toggled to display only the working set of each seismic line.

Intersection Options

Intersection Type: This is the type of intersection that you wish to perform. Selecting one of the types will update the Intersection Type Diagram to provide an schematic of what type of intersection will be found. Note: this diagram does not reflect the actual data selected, and is for illustration purposes only. Certain Intersection types will have additional options that need to be specified.

The types are:

Along the bore: Uses a range of evenly spaced points that are specified along the well path in MD. For each point, the XY of that point is used to find a value from the seismic to be extracted. Additional parameters need to be defined in the Along The Bore Options:

Upper Bound: This sets the start of the range to be sampled. It can be set to the Surface Hole, a Depth value in MD, a Formation Name, Formation Alias, or a Well Zone.
Lower Bound: This sets the end of the range to be sampled. It can be set to the Bottom Hole, a Depth value in MD, a Formation Name or a Formation Alias.
Sample increment:This is the increment to be used for sampling. For this method, this is in Measured Depth (MD) units along the well bore.

With a formation top: Uses the XY location of formation top and then extracts the value of the seismic at that XY location. Additional parameters need to be defined in the Top Extraction Options:

Set to use either a Formation or Formation Alias.
Then specify the Name, Source and Owner (if needed) for the application to find the well top.
An optional Offset value specified in MD can be applied either above (-ve) or below (+ve) the well top.

Values to Use:

Interpolated Seismic Values:If selected, bi-linear interpolation is used to determine the value of the seismic at the map location (XY) that is determined from the well and uses neighboring points. This may result in a seismic value that does not match the actual seismic data directly.
Raw Seismic Values: If selected, the seismic values will be used as is.
 

Samples to Use:

Single: Only the seismic value at the bin closest in XY will be used.
Multiple: Uses a window of samples centered around the XY location and specified in the columns (X) and rows (Y) directions. When multiple samples are used, you can chose a mathematical operator to apply to the group of values. Operators available are Average, Median, Minimum, Maximum and Sum.

 

Output Options

You can output the extracted value as a .CSV file, a Formation Top or a Log Curve. The allowed types will change based on the Intersection Type that is initially selected.

Value to output: When you specify an intersection type that would output more than one value (e.g Along the Bore), you can choose to get each extracted value output using All Values. You can also chose to apply a mathematical operator to this group of values and get a single value result. Operators available are Average, Median, Minimum, Maximum and Sum.

Output depth as:Specify whether to output depth units in TVD or in SubSea.

.CSV File specific options:

Filename: The name/location of the file to be output. Click on the "..." to use a windows browser to pick a new file location if needed.
Units: For depth units, chose to export in Meters or Feet. The default is the project depth units.
Output surface and bottom hole location: Includes 4 additional columns of data that contain the surface and bottom hole location of the well being used for the extraction.
Overwrite existing data: Allows the application to overwrite the .CSV file if it already exists. If disabled, and the .CSV file exists, no output can be generated.
Output seismic values as columns: Re-orders the extracted seismic values from rows to columns in the .CSV file. This will replicate the display used in the deprecated version of this application.
Export tops: Gives the option to select formation tops that will be included in the file as additional columns.

Formation Top specific options:

Formation: The output formation name to be used.
Source: The source to be assigned to the output formation.
Overwrite existing data: Allows the application to overwrite an existing formation top if it already exists. If disabled, and the formation exists, and additional formation top will be added to the database with the extracted value.

Log Curve Specific options:

Name: The output log curve name to be used.
Source: The source to be assigned to the output log curve.
Units: For depth units, chose to export in Meters or Feet. The default is the project depth units.
Overwrite existing data: Allows the application to overwrite an existing log curve if it already exists. If disabled, and the log curve exists, no output can be generated.

Intersection Type Diagram

This is for illustrative purposes only and aims to shows how the intersection is found for the various Intersection types. This can be enabled/disabled under the View menu. Note: not all options specified will be displayed on this (for example, sample options are not shown).

Summary

This is a text summary of the paramters that are being used in the run. You can highlight and copy this text if needed (but cannot save directly to a file at this time). The view can be enabled/disabled under the View menu.
