SEG-Y Viewer: Menus

Some of the options that are available from the top menu in the SEG-Y Viewer can also be accessed by using an icon.

SEG-Y Viewer Menus 

File

Open SEG-Y File:Opens SEG-Y files in the SEG-Y Viewer.  Files can be loaded (in SeisWare format) or raw.

Load Keywords:Loads in a predefined Keyword file (.kwd).

Save Keywords: Saves the keyword definitions to the current .kwd file being used.

Save Keywords As:Saves the current keyword definitions to a .kwd with a name and location of your choosing. 

Export Trace Headers:Select the keywords to export the trace header data to a text file.

Export Keyword Values: Select the keywords to export their trace values as a table to a text file.

Import Keyword Values: Import select keyword trace values from a table in a text file.

Properties: Opens the SEG-Y File Properties dialog shown below.  Contains information about the SEG-Y file.


SeisX format: This is a flag that is set in the binary header of the SEG-Y file to indicate whether or not a SEG-Y file had been loaded into SeisX.  if the file has been loaded and is in SeisX format then you should be able to just attach the file into SeisWare

Byte Swapped: This relates to whether the SEG-Y file is in PC or UNIX format.  If it says False, that means the file is in PC format, True, then it is in UNIX format.

Data Format:Tells you which Data Format the file is in.

Number of Traces: Tells you the number of traces in the file.

Samples Per Trace:Tells you how many samples per trace is in the file.

Read Tape: Reads a SCSI Tape to extract the header information to view in the SEG-Y Viewer.

Exit: Closes the SEG-Y Viewer.

Edit

Copy:Copies the selected data to an internal buffer for duplication using the paste function.  This function can also be accessed using the hot key combination Ctrl+C or by right clicking in the SEG-Y Viewer.

Add Keyword: Launches the Add Keyword dialog which allows you to define a Key Name and Scale Factor for the Byte Offset that your cursor is currently placed in.  The Byte Offset can be changed to add the Key Name of any position in the SEG-Y Viewer data area.  If the desired Key Name does not appear in the drop down list one can be manually typed in.

Delete All Keywords: Deletes and clears all defined keywords in the SEG-Y Viewer keyword area.  

EBCDIC Header: Launches the Edit EBCDIC Header dialog where you can manually type in or edit information already contained in the header.

File Properties: See Properties.

Format

Show Leading Zeros:By default SeisWare removes the leading zeros from the Header Words to make them easier to view.  Toggle this option on if you want to view them.

Default EBCDIC Character: When viewing the EBCDIC Header you have the choice of either having a space " " or a period "." between each character.

View

Graph Word:Launches the Graph Header Word dialog which allows you to graph the Byte Offset that your cursor is currently placed in.  The Byte Offset can be changed to graph any position in the SEG-Y Viewer Data Area.  The First and Last Trace can also be modified to that only a portion of the header word is graphed.

Trace Display:Launches a new dialog which displays the header information as a trace display for IEEE, IBM, 32 Bit, 16 Bit and 8 Bit formats.  If the Trace Display appears blank scroll through several traces or jump to the middle of the file.  It is common for SEG-Y files to have little or no data on the first few traces.  


Seismic Viewer:Launch the Seismic Viewer to view the currently active SEG-Y.

Keyword Analyzer:Launch the Keyword Analyzer to view the currently active SEG-Y.

Toolbar and Status Bar: Turn these on and off to display the respective toolbars.
