Data Ownership
All data within a SeisWare project is associated with an Owner. This allows interpreters to
track their own work, and allows
multiple users to work in large projects while limiting their view to
their own work.

Data Ownership Overview
All data within SeisWare is associated with an Owner. As data gets added to a project, whether it's being imported or created, it will owned by the person who is doing the work. A single project may have data owned by many users. The User Properties window contains a list of all of the users associated with a project, and only users in this list are allowed to own data.
Every properties window you'll see a field containing Owner information, indicating who
created or added the data. This field has multiple uses.
- You can track your own work and the work of others, and limit
others ability to alter or delete work owned by you.
- You can make data selections more easily. By typing the Owner name into the search bar, you can quickly limit
the items you're viewing.
- You can create data
filters,
which can then be used to filter data
when making selections.
- You can create a user filter. This filter will create a view of a project which only contains information from a specific owner or owners. Another user may be working on the same project, but have a completely different experience of the project.
Data Ownership when Importing Data
Data that is imported is owned by the user importing the data. This may
be the Current User or the
user they are Impersonating.
It's important when importing data that the correct ownership is
assigned. The role of Data Manager was created so that
the person importing new data can easily impersonate the person they
are loading data for.
Changing Data Ownership
When you are a Standard user you will be able to see data owned by others, but you won't be able to modify or delete the data. In order to work with the data you can either create a copy of the data, or have the ownership changed by an Administrator or Data Manager.Creating a Copy of Existing Data
Standard users can create a copy of data owned by other users in order to have a version of the data that can be modified by them. With the exception of seismic data, you can create a copy of another user's data from the properties window for the data that you need to copy (e.g. Horizon Properties to create a copy of a horizon). You can also create a copy from many selection lists by using the shortcut menu, which you can open by right clicking on the selection list. It's important to keep in mind that if you have set a User Filter you won't be able to see the data for any user that isn't included in your filter, so you may have to turn off your filter for the purposes of creating a copy of the data.
Changing Ownership of Existing Data
In certain situations you'll need to re-assign ownership of data. You may have imported data when you were Impersonating the wrong user, or an owner may no longer be active in a project. To re-assign ownership of existing data, you must have the user role of Administrator or Data Manager. Re-assigning data can be done from the properties window for each data type. Select all of the data, and change the Owner.
If someone is taking over another user's project, instead of
re-assigning ownership of each data type individually, you can change
the name and login details for an existing user from the User Properties window. You need to
have a role of Administrator
to make these changes.
Ownership when Upgrading from Versions of SeisWare Previous to SeisWare 9.0
When a project is upgraded from a version previous to 9.0, all data
will be assigned the owner "Default". When you first open the project
you will become the Current User "Default"
and will be assigned the role of Administrator.
Before creating any new roles you will want to consider the user scenario that you want to use at
your company.
