Color Tools: Color Spectrum Generator

The Color Spectrum Generator is used to create or edit color and seismic spectra. You can create discrete an continuous spectra, selecting colors, data ranges, and lithologic patterns. As you make changes in the spectrum table, the spectrum at the top of the dialog box will reflect your changes.

To open the Color Spectrum Generator, from the Color Spectrum Manager or Opacity Spectrum Manager, click or .

Spectrum Parameters

Open Spectrum: When you are editing an existing spectrum, this field will display the path of the spectrum. Click to open the Specify Color Spectrum File selector to select a different file.

Save As: When you have finished editing a spectrum, save the spectrum using a new name.

Save: When you have finished editing a spectrum, overwrite the spectrum you are editing.

Type: When you are editing an existing spectrum, this field will display the spectrum type. When you are creating a new spectrum, choose from Discrete or Continuous.

Discrete: A color cut-off is applied at a specific value. For example, a gamma ray curve may need a spectrum that is yellow between 0 and 100, and gray between 100 and 200, with no gradations in color.

Continuous: A continuous range of colors is used. Each discrete color grades to the next.

Parameters: These are used to build the table of values, where you can select discrete colors and litholigic symbols. Note that the minimum and maximum values do no relate to the units of values of the data which they may represent.

Maximum: The maximum value in the Range column.

Minimum: The minimum value in the range column.

Increments: The value of each step in the range column. This is determined by dividing the range by the number of Intervals. Changing this value will change the number of Intervals when the parameters are applied.

Intervals: The number of steps in the table. This is determined by dividing the range by the number of Increments. Changing this value will change the number of Increments when the parameters are applied. The maximum number of intervals is 256.

Apply Parameters: Apply the parameters to the spectrum table. Note that this may change the Increment or Interval value depending on which value was modified.

Continuous Spectrum Table

Edit or create a continuous color spectrum. Click on the color spectrum to jump to the corresponding values in the table.

Range Start: the range values to which the discrete color will be applied starting with the Minimum value and ending with the Maximum value.

Select Color: Click on the color field to open the Color Table and select the discrete.

Discrete Color: The discrete color occurring at the corresponding range value.

Continuous: The continuous color spectrum created by grading from one discrete color to the subsequent discrete color.

Discrete Spectrum Table

Edit or create a discrete color spectrum. Click on the color spectrum to jump to the corresponding values in the table.

Range Start: the minimum range values to which the discrete color will be applied.

Range End: The maximum range value to which the discrete color will be applied.

Select Color: Click on the color field to open the Color Table and select the discrete.

Discrete Color: The discrete color occurring at the corresponding range value.

Lith Pattern: Click to open the Lithology Pattern Selection dialog box to select a pattern that corresponds to the current data range.

Shortcut Menu

The following options available on the shortcut menu, accessed by right clicking on the spectrum table. These will help you build your spectrum.

Clear Color: Clear the color from the selected row. Note that when you clear the color, the continuous color will be applied from the first previous range value with color to the next range value with color.

Clear All Color: Clear all colors from all rows .

Move Color Up / Move Color Down: Move the color in the selected row up or down one row in the spectrum.

Copy Color / Copy Color From Discrete: Copy the selected color to the clipboard.

Paste Color: Paste a previously copied color to the selected row.

Flip Color Spectrum: Reverse the order of the color spectrum.

Insert Row Before this Row / Insert Row After This Row: Add a new row above or below the selected row .

Delete Row: Remove the selected row from the spectrum definition .
