Calculation Tools: Grid Operations

Use the Grid Operations dialog box to perform mathematical operations on one or more grids. To open the dialog box, from the Tools menu in the 3D View, Map View or Grid View window, select Grid Operations.

Multiple Grid Operation: When this is turned off, perform an operation on a single grid. When this is turned on, perform an operation using two grids.

Grid A: Open the Choose one Surface dialog box to select a grid for use in a single or multiple grid operation.

Grid B: Open the Choose one Surface dialog box to select a grid for use in a multiple grid operation. Note: This is only available when Multiple Grid Operation is turned on.

Shape(s): Open the Annotation Selection Dialog and select an existing closed polygon to use for the Blank Inside or Blank Outside operation. Note: This is only available when using a single grid operation.

Constant: Enter a constant value to be used in the operation. Note: The constant is applied differently depending on the operation.

Operation: Select an operation from the list. An explanation for each operation is displayed at the top of the dialog box. Note: The list of available operations is different for single and multiple grid operations. See Operation descriptions...

Single Grid Operations

Add: Add the Constant to Grid A.

Subtract: Subtract the Constant from Grid A.

Multiply: Multiply Grid A by the Constant.

Divide: Divide Grid A by the Constant.

Nth Power: Raise Grid A to the power of the Constant.

Nth Root: Take the Constant root of Grid A.

Natural Logarithm: The natural logarithm of Grid A.

Log10: The Log10 of Grid A.

Sine: The sine of Grid A, where Grid A is in radians.

Cosine: The cosine of Grid A, where Grid A is in radians.

Normalize: Normalize Grid A to values between 0 and 1.

Set to Constant: Assign the Constant value to every cell in Grid A.

Blank Inside: Every Grid A value inside the selected Shape is assigned the Constant value. For a Constant value of 0, the assigned values will be NULL.

Blank Outside: Every Grid A value outside the selected Shape is assigned the Constant value. For a Constant value of 0, the assigned values will be NULL.

Clip Above: Every Grid A value higher than the Constant value is removed from the grid.

Clip Below: Every Grid A value lower than the Constant value is removed from the grid.

Sum of Grid: The sum of all of the non-NULL Grid A values.

Volume of Grid: The absolute sum of all non-NULL Grid A values multiplied by the area of an individual grid cell.

Multiple Grid Operations

Add: Add Grid A and Grid B.

Subtract: Subtract Grid B from Grid A.

Multiply: Multiply Grid A by Grid B.

Divide: Divide Grid A by Grid B.

Max: The maximum value from Grid A or Grid B.

Min: The minimum value from Grid A or Grid B.

Clip Below: Grid A values that are below/less thanGrid B values become NULL.

Clip Above: Grid A values that are above/more than Grid B values become NULL.

Or: Grid A values are used where they are present, otherwise Grid B values are used.

And: Grid A values are used where Grid B values also exist. Where Grid B values do not exist, Grid A values become NULL.

Proportional Stratigraphic Layers: A Constant number of layers are generated between Grid A and Grid B.

Toplap Stratigraphic Layers: Toplap stratigraphic layers between Grid A and Grid B.

Onlap Stratigraphic Layers: Onlap stratigraphic layers between Grid A and Grid B.

Output Grid: Open the Select Surface dialog box and select an existing grid to overwrite, or create a new grid.

Name: Enter a name for the calculated grid.

Color: Click on the color field to open the Color Table to select or change the default color for the grid.

Surface Grid/Fault Grid: Specify the grid type.

Add New Surface: Click to add the new surface to the list of available grids.
