3D View Tools: Datum
Use the Choose One Surface dialog box to select a datum for your 3D display. When you apply a datum, the positions of all of the visible objects, including surfaces, curves, and picks, will be shifted relative to the datum surface.
To open the Choose One Surface dialog box to select a datum, click on the Buttons toolbar, or from the Edit menu select Datum. When you have a datum applied, the name of the surface will appear next to the menu item, and on the toolbar button (
).
Note: Because the datum operation is performed by mapping the surface using all of the picks in the database, a well does not need to contain a pick for the datum horizon in order to be shifted. The well is shifted relative to the wells that do contain picks based on the intersection of the mapped surface with the well.
Surfaces and Faults Tabs
Use the Surfaces and Faults tabs to select the surface on which to datum the 3D display. Only one surface can be selected from any tab on the Surfaces or Faults tab. If you choose to apply a datum using a surface that isn't currently being displayed, the surface is gridded using the default grid parameters.
Additional Options
None: Remove the datum selection and revert to the original 3D display.
