Getting Started: Well Planning
How do I create a well plan in the Seismic Viewer?
-
Click on the Well Planning icon (
). This will open the Well Planning dialog box, and enter you into well planning mode. -
Left click to begin adding nodes for the well plan. Based on where you click, and the type of seismic data (time or depth) the X, Y and Time or Depth value will update be entered in the well planning table. Keep left clicking to add additional nodes. Each node is given its own row in the Well Planning dialog. You can also move the display to another inline or crossline within the same Seismic Viewer and the node will be connected to previous nodes. Note: For depth volumes, the depth type is based on the display, so will be either subsea or TVD.
-
Right click to add the last node and exit well planning mode. The Well Planning dialog box will remain open, but you can no longer add nodes from the Seismic Viewer.
- To save the plan, from the File menu, select Save Well to associate the file with an existing well, or Save File to save the file as a spreadsheet.
To add a node: Left click in the Seismic Viewer. This will add a new node, and connect it to a prior node. If not connected in the right order, you can reposition the node using the up and down arrows in the Well Planning dialog. To reposition a node: Left click on the node square, hold down and drag to a new position. The values should update in the Well Planning dialog. You can also type directly in the Well Planning dialog to change any of the parameters for a node. To delete a node: Left click on the node to highlight and hit Delete on your keyboard. Alternatively, after the node is highlighted, click
in the Well Planning dialog. To convert nodes picked on a time volume into depth, from the File menu, select Convert Time to Depth using Velocity Curve. This allows you to select an existing velocity curve to convert the well path points from time to depth. Note: This can't be used to convert from depth to time.
