Data Loader: 3D Quality Checks and Troubleshooting
After loading in a 3D SEG-Y file it is a good idea to run through the following checks to ensure the line is loaded correctly. If an error has occurred the most common examples are listed and how to troubleshoot them.
Defining Keywords
No Coordinate values in the header
- Define ONLY the Line and
Trace Sequence Numbers in the Keyword
file then specify the
geometry. Press the
then
enter 3
known corner
points for the 3D.
No Line or Trace Sequence numbers in the header
- Define ONLY the Coordinate X
and Coordinate Y values in the
Keyword file
Press the
button and
enter
the line
and trace information for the file.
No keyword information in the header
- Use both the
and
options.
Data Loader
- If you receive this
message press
and
read the error
log. You may have
to revise your
keywords to ensure they are correctly
defined.
Basemap
Launch the Basemap (Main Launcher, Launch → Basemap) and locate the newly loaded line. You may need to hit the Fit Basemap to Window icon (- Basemap zoomed out too far - this may indicate missing or incorrect coordinate values. Open Seismic Line Properties to see the X and Y values. You may need reload the line ensuring that the Coordinate X and Y keywords are correct or that the correct scale factor has been applied.
- Line not located in the existing project area - this may indicate that the line was loaded in the incorrect Coordinate System. Reload the line and specify the Source and Destination system on the Addition Options page of the Data Load wizard.
Line Properties
Open Seismic Line Properties (Main Launcher → Seismic → Line Properties) and find the new line on the list. Check all of the information for the line, including the Name, Type, Version and Min and Max X and Y. If any of these values are incorrect you may need to delete then reload the line, adjusting the keyword file to ensure the line loads correctly. Common errors may include:- Max and Min X and Y values are 0- you may need to reload the line and Specify Geometry… instead of defining the Coordinate X and Y in the keyword file.
- Max and Min X and Y values are wrong by a factor of 10 - reload the line ensuring that a scale factor is given to the Coordinate X and Coordinate Y keywords.
Seismic Viewer
Open the line in the Seismic Viewer .
Look at the data to ensure that it has been loaded
correctly. Common
errors may include:
- Lines appear washed out - you may need to reload the line using a statistics window. Check the Peak to RMS ratio in Seismic Line Properties to ensure it is between 3 and 13.
- Lines appear boxy or clipped - you may need to reload the line and override the Data Format in the binary header.
